3 Feeding the tadpoles

Reading up about feeding, I thought I’d see what was happening naturally before I started to provide any food. I’d bought some tadpole food but I was worried about adding too much and the pond becoming fouled with debris.

For the first week or two they seemed very happy with the algae that had grown on the pond liner and pebbles, steadily munching their way through it. But I noticed recently that it had reduced to a thin green fringe and the pond liner was looking scrubbed clean in places.

So from April 15th I started to add a couple of large pinches of food to the surface every evening at around 5pm and I’ve been doing that every day since then.

At first they seem to ignore the food when it lands on the surface of the pond, going about their business quite calmly. Then one or two tadpoles find it and become interested. After this, and within about ten minutes, it’s a feeding frenzy.
