The tadpoles seem happy today and enjoyed the food I sprinkled on the surface. They seem happy in the pond, either basking in sunny spots or swimming around the vegetation, nibbling at algae on the large pebbles. I’ve been looking closely to see any signs of legs developing but it’s a bit too soon; nothing showing yet.
I’ve found conflicting information on websites. Some say that I can expect back legs to start developing at 6 – 9 weeks (which would mean from next week). One site says as early as five weeks from hatching. Other sites say 16 weeks. I’ve also read that various factors affect the rate of change from tadpole to frog, such as availability of food and chances of getting eaten by something. Then other sites say this isn’t true. Ho hum. So instead of legs, I have another few clips of eyes and mouths. As the light catches the eye in the last clip, you can definitely see that this is a frog-in-waiting.
