19 Developing legs (and my hand)

I’ve taken some more video today to show that quite a few of the tadpoles now have fully formed frog legs in miniature. Others have legs in progress, many have leg buds, and others seem to be still at an earlier stage. This could be because there were two lots of spawn in the pond, separated by about three weeks.

I spent some time this evening trying to capture video with legs and managed five clips with legs out of about 20 clips recorded. I then had the idea to put my hand in the water. Usually the tadpoles are very curious if I dip in to move pebbles or take out leaf debris, so I thought any legs might show up against my pale skin. They were certainly interested today, so clip 6 is not for the faint-hearted, but the legs do show up very clearly when they appear. I just want to add that I washed my hand thoroughly before dipping it in the water and again thoroughly afterwards, to avoid any danger to the tadpoles or to me.

Avoid clip 6 if you’re squeamish! Background noises courtesy of local bird life, planes from Birmingham airport and the creaking of the tree house against the Beech tree.
