34 Meanwhile… back in the pond

I’ve been so focused on tracking down the froglets in various parts of the garden that I’ve not spent as much time around the pond in recent days. Here’s a close up clip of a froglet breathing and blinking. I found this one near the bins among last autumn’s dry leaves.

Meanwhile, life has been carrying on pretty much the same in the pond for the remaining tadpoles. I checked again this afternoon and recorded what happened when I threw in some food*.

Some of the tadpoles seem undeveloped, with very small legs tucked in and barely visible. They are probably those Peter Pans I mentioned in a previous post. And, while none of them seem to have any sort of arms visible, many have very well developed legs. I’m still hopeful that more of them will make it onto dry land before winter.

Meanwhile… back in the pond, it’s business as usual. No arms but plenty of legs and still lots of tadpoles.

* The food you can see is a mix of the two packets I have left. Some of it is for tadpoles with legs and some is for froglets.
