39 Climbing the walls

It was pouring with rain this morning and, thinking that this would be frog heaven, I set out with a big umbrella to see what they were up to. And what they were up to was about the second brick in the wall. I found quite a few clinging to the brickwork and one or two falling off into the leaves and chippings below.

I stayed out for an hour and took pictures and a few videos. I’ve just shared one video here because the quality was poor. Trying to get close enough quickly enough, while trying to wedge a large umbrella above me had a big effect on my ability to stay still and to focus the camera.

In the rain I saw many more froglets than usual and quite a few were clinging or climbing. Once the rain had stopped, they disappeared again. By the way, the noise is the rain falling on plastic buckets in the yard and on my umbrella.

When I got back into the house, I Googled why do frogs climb walls when it’s raining? and I couldn’t find anything useful. So, if you know or have any ideas, please leave a comment. But it seems the rain has this effect. After the rain stopped, I went out again. Earlier I saw lots of froglets clinging and climbing and quite a few hopping out of my way in all sorts of places. This time… nothing. All quiet again. Hmm.
