63 A long cold snap

It’s been frozen and windless for days now. Few birds, no movement amongst the leaves, all quiet, except for the evidence of spiders, their webs shivering gently as I walk past.

Most plants are dormant and covered in thick frost, but the winter jasmine, protected by the red brick of the house, is sun-bright against the ivy.
