The SD card revealed a total of absolutely nothing, so the additional clump of spawn I found in the pond this morning must have been created underwater with no above-water fuss. Still, there is a new clump, which is good. On wider inspection of the garden. I found nothing obvious in either of the other ponds, which is less encouraging, unless Lily Pond will be the home for more newts, which would be fair in the newts v frogs dynamic.

As nothing seemed to be happening in Lily Pond, I spent an hour dismantling the miniature bulrush to get rid of the invasive grass in the basket and I also cleaned up the lily a bit and added a less obtrusive handle. Tidy now.

Later today I happened to be near Tiny Pond and I saw that the water surface was agitated, so I crept closer with my phone and hid behind low Viburnum shrubs to get a closer look without frightening the frogs. The resulting short clips are a little fuzzy, because I’ve zoomed in from quite a distance, but they’re fun to watch.

And just to finish, here’s a shot of the latest clump of spawn emerging from the pond surface. It looks like a weird pudding with cream, due to light reflection on the water.
