69 Frog party

Today the croaking started. There doesn’t seem to be any more spawn (I can still count six clumps) but the water is pulsing most of the time and there’s a lot of noise.

I can’t quite see what’s happening because I’m watching from a distance to avoid disturbing them. There do seem to be some occasional female/male pairings but most of the action seems to be males getting on each other’s nerves and jostling for position, which is probably why they’re croaking, trying to win the favour of the few available females.

Video clips 1 to 5 are of Tiny Pond. The final clip (Saturday Frog Party 6) is of the frogs in Lily Pond. In the clips, the frogs are mostly very cute but, under water, things can get a little heated and aggressive.

We’ve counted at least eight large frogs in Tiny Pond and today we counted three in Lily Pond. It’s still quiet in Lion Pond, but that one gets no sun until mid afternoon so it’s probably for the best as there’s more frost in the long range weather forecast.
