Back in Blog 94 I shared a picture of my ‘resident frog’ in Lion Pond, fantastic stripy legs outstretched in the newly cleaned rainwater, but then I went on to get all excited about finding a toad under a rock at Lily Pond.
But there’s something about this frog, always in Lion Pond at some point most days, head just about the water line beside the Victorian edging stones, aware of me but happy enough as long as I don’t get too close.
I like to think we have a relationship of sorts, so I was delighted one day recently to find that resident frog had put on a funny hat to amuse me.

And imagine how I felt a few days later to find that resident frog had gone, possibly for ever. It just wasn’t usual, for it to be away for more than 24 hours. I imagined it dead, having been eaten by a fox and stared into the empty pond, sad.

Then, about a week later, here it was, back in the same spot and all was back as it should be.
Yesterday morning, resident frog was nowhere to be seen, but that’s normal for morning and also understandable because Blue Tits and other small birds had taken over the pond for a splash and wash session. There’s no sound on the video because it was taken through a window to avoid disturbing them.
