Today, I decided to fetch a bag of potting gravel from the garden centre to cover some patches where the pond liner was showing through. Of course, while I was there, I bought a plant for the pond too. So, this afternoon my work was cut out securing the new plant into an aquatic basket and suspending it in the pond by means of thin garden wire passed under a stepping stone.
The plant is called Flying Hedgehogs, because each stem is topped with a brownish prickly seed head. Hopefully it will need little maintenance and waft about in the breeze, adding interest to the pond margin and also helping to cover the pond liner.

All relevant content if you’re planting out a pond yourself and interested in marginals, but I expect you’re wondering why this post is called Pigeon Story.
Well, while working around the pond, I switched off the trail camera, not wanting to see multiple clips of my knees and bags of gravel. I didn’t think I’d have captured anything interesting this morning but checked, just in case, before wiping the SD card and setting the camera for tonight. Ha! Here’s Pigeon Story for you…
By the way, one of the clips has no pigeon in it, just in case you wondered. But it’s a nice clip of the pond in the dappled shade of the beech tree, before I added the new flying hedgehogs plant. I’ve also added another clip of the pigeon on 3rd July. it’s so cute when the head just pops up out of nowhere. Might not be the same pigeon of course!
